![]() ![]() A generation raised on games began to erase their subcultural stigma, while the spread of accessible development tools spurred an indie renaissance. Then, in the twenty-tens, the cordon sanitaire began to break down. Nintendo’s legendary director Shigeru Miyamoto agreed, insisting that he made not art works but “products.” The art world, for its part, saw games as raw material, celebrating artists who remixed them-like Cory Arcangel, who exhibited a hacked version of Super Mario Brothers called “Super Mario Clouds” at the 2004 Whitney Biennial-while slighting the original works as mindless entertainment. “No video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form,” Roger Ebert declared a dozen years ago. Until recently, art museums have strenuously ignored video games, consigning them to a purgatory once occupied by photography, fashion, film, and the decorative arts. The irony is that all this began at the Met. Overnight, an activity I’d associated with Scrooge McDuck pogo-sticking on the moon had unsettled my reality, prompting questions like “What happens after death?” and “How do we know that there’s only one God?” Like many millennials, I came to owe a disproportionate share of my early cultural education to games, which introduced me to Bach’s violin concertos (Civilization IV), “ The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyam” (Titanic: Adventure Out of Time), Pure Land Buddhism (Cosmology of Kyoto), and the medieval Spanish epic “ El Cantar de Mio Cid” (Age of Empires II). It was my first intimation that video games could be a form of aesthetic experience. “In the beginning, stranger, there were no beginnings,” a voice from nu, the lifeless waters of chaos, said. My heart pounded when a papyrus clicked open to reveal a gorgeously animated creation myth. Soon, in defiance of the twelve-and-up rating, I was wandering the tombs of Giza with a talking jackal, searching for grave goods to nourish the souls of kings. In the gift shop, I spotted “Nile: An Ancient Egyptian Quest”-a three-disk “edutainment,” co-produced by the museum and scored by Brian Eno, which invited me to bring the enchantment home. My favorite spot was the Temple of Dendur, where you could actually go inside the narrow chamber etched with hieroglyphs. Obsessed, like many kids, with ancient Egypt, I’d spent the day marvelling at scarabs, sarcophagi, and ivory game pieces with canine heads. ![]() At some point in my childhood, I persuaded my parents to buy me a computer game at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. ![]() ![]() ![]() When Zazu was young, Zuzu trained him to take her place when Mufasa's rule began.Īs the king's majordomo, Zazu is knowledgeable, diplomatic, and stern. In How True, Zazu?, Zazu's mother, Zuzu, was a steward to Kopa's great-grandfather Ahadi. Mufasa realizes that the little hornbill is useful after all and appoints him as the royal adviser. Zazu finds a tree trunk that Mufasa drags over to the pit, allowing Sarabi to climb out. But Mufasa can't find a way to rescue Sarabi. Zazu flies back to tell Mufasa who leaps up and runs to the gorge. Zazu flies over to where the vultures are anyway and sees that Sarabi has fallen into a pit and can't get out. He asks Mufasa if he wants him to fly over and see what's happening, but Mufasa is not concerned and lies down for a nap. One day, Zazu notices some vultures hovering. Mufasa quickly gets tired of this as Zazu disturbs his hunts and his private time with his betrothed Sarabi. Zazu follows Mufasa around and watches over him. Zazu is thankful and hopes that he can be of service to the future Lion King someday. In the book Friends in Need, Young Zazu is about to be cooked and eaten by the three young hyenas (which explains his cry of "Oh, no! Not the birdie boiler!" in the first movie) Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed, when an adolescent Mufasa comes along, frightens off the hyenas and saves him. Things spin hilariously out of control when a neighbor's pet devours everything edible, a one-eyed suitor shows up to declare his love and a shocking high-stakes wager is made on who bakes the best red velvet cake.Zazu has two conflicting histories as to how he became the King's majordomo: Unfortunately, they face an uphill battle as a parade of wildly eccentric Verdeens gathers on the hottest day of July, smack-dab in the middle of Texas tornado season. But the cousins can't back out of the reunion now. And Jimmie Wyvette, the roughhewn store manager of Whatley's Western Wear, is resorting to extreme measures to outmaneuver a priss-pot neighbor for the affections of Sweetgum's newest widower. Peaches, the saucy number one mortuarial cosmetologist in the tri-county area, is struggling to decide if it's time to have her long-absent trucker husband declared dead. Having "accidentally" crashed her minivan through the bedroom wall of her husband's girlfriend's doublewide, Gaynelle is one frazzled nerve away from a spectacular meltdown. ![]() Their outrageous antics have set tongues wagging in the small town of Sweetgum (just down the road from Fayro) and the eyes of Texas are upon them, as their self-righteous Aunt LaMerle is quick to point out. Vivid Racing carries several reputable brands that offer both subtle and more over-the-top wing designs for the highly popular Nissan 350Z. The proper, quality ones will deliver added styling together with enhanced performance, handling, and efficiency. If you are looking to improve the aerodynamics of your coupe while also elevating its overall tuner appeal, a rear wing/spoiler is a great way to go. At the same time, it can also increase your vehicle’s braking ability to give you a better sense of control. This, in turn, delivers added traction to help drivers turn faster and more effectively in corners. At the right (fast) speeds, a rear spoiler creates downforce which helps to push the car down to the ground. While more often done for a fashion statement rather than performance reasons, rear spoilers can actually offer benefits for owners who like to do more spirited driving. ![]() ![]() Moonlight requires you to manage your games though GeForce Experience. In general each experience has some positives and negatives. I have Moonlight, Steam Link and Rainway all set up and tried each of them with the Backbone. I've done this in the past with my iPad and controller and the experience was very good. First off, my primary goal was to stream my PC games to my phone to play like a Switch when my wife wanted to use the TV. The real reason I bought the Backbone One and it came with some surprises - some good and some bad. ![]() Also, even though I'm far from a fan of the series and even further of a fan of F2P service games, I've sunk a more hours into CoD Mobile with this than I'm comfortable admitting. While the console quality releases (GRiD, Dead Cells, Hyper Light Drifter among others) are few and far between, Apple Arcade suddenly becomes a viable service to me with enough interesting experiences that use the controller that I'm now excited to see what else I've been missing. I have to say though, with this controller I will probably be giving mobile gaming a second look. It's never been something I've cared about so I was really only trying it out to see what it was like. Honestly, I didn't buy the Backbone One for iOS gaming at all. There's also no way to group games or categorise them in any way so I hope these additions are brought to it soon. However, it unfortunately doesn't currently let you delete games you've added, even after they are no longer on your system. ![]() The software has been talked about a lot and in general is fantastic. It's not a dealbreaker but definitely something to improve. This becomes mainly a problem for games where you need to push multiple buttons at once (say in a fighting game for example). My one gripe is that the face buttons feel slightly too far apart. I've seen complaints about the triggers feeling mushy, but on the contrary, I actually really love how they feel. This controller feels as good as any first party controller for other systems. I'm very picky about controllers and have WAY too many for all my different systems. I had read and seen all the reviews and so was expecting a high build quality, but honestly it still exceeded my expectations. It's less a review and more a breakdown on how I've been using it for the past two weeks.įirst off, I have to give credit to the build of this device. Obviously a lot of users here are already happy Backbone One users so this post is mostly intended for those who may be considering getting this controller. ![]() ![]() The survey before had drilled 6-9 bore holes and found that it was such and such soil.
